BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – In Berlin on Thursday, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a meeting with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. The discussions centered on deepening economic collaboration and development cooperation between the two nations. They also addressed regional and international issues, diplomacy, peace, and security matters. This engagement occurred alongside President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.

UAE and Germany widen strategic partnership in Berlin
UAE-Germany talks in Berlin highlight expanding strategic and economic cooperation.

The ministers explored avenues for expanding their strategic alliance and enhancing cooperation in various sectors. Sheikh Abdullah emphasized that the UAE-Germany relationship remains strong and adaptable, with ongoing growth. He highlighted their mutual dedication to building on existing successes and promoting sustainable economic prosperity. During the meeting, Wadephul and Sheikh Abdullah shared perspectives on common issues and approaches to crisis resolution through diplomatic channels.

The broader state visit introduced a new framework for bilateral engagement. Germany’s Federal Government described it as the first state visit to Germany by a UAE president. Sheikh Mohamed met with Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and the two leaders announced the initiation of a new Strategic Dialogue. This platform addresses security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate, technology, digitalization, transportation, environment, culture, and education sectors.

Expansion of bilateral cooperation through strategic dialogue

Both governments supported the establishment of a German-UAE Investment Council aimed at bolstering engagement between public and private sectors. They welcomed the revival of the Joint Economic Committee and the outcomes achieved by a bilateral business forum. The visit resulted in 29 business agreements and memoranda valued at over 9.356 billion euros, as outlined in the joint declaration. Additionally, a UAE investment package worth 40 billion euros in Germany was announced.

Economic collaboration now extends into energy, advanced technology, and digital infrastructure. The joint declaration underlined ongoing and planned initiatives involving LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, and energy efficiency measures. It also referenced plans for the development of advanced data centers with approximately one gigawatt of capacity. Both sides recognized artificial intelligence and emerging tech as key areas within their broader cooperation framework.

Diplomatic and regional stability discussions between foreign ministers

During their Berlin talks, the foreign ministers reviewed regional and global developments. They discussed enhancing international efforts to ensure lasting peace, stability, and security. The dialogue emphasized diplomatic solutions to crises, aligning with themes raised during the state visit. The German government also identified Middle East peace and stability as key topics for the leaders’ discussions.

Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, UAE Minister of State, participated in the meeting between Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul. Their conversations integrated foreign policy, economic cooperation, and development within the bilateral framework. The state visit also linked these discussions with formal mechanisms for investment, strategic dialogue, and sector-specific collaboration. These Berlin meetings represent the most recent milestone in the ongoing UAE-Germany Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, established in 2004.
