CAIRO, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – At the close of August 2026, Egypt’s international reserves increased to a historic $57.2145 billion. The Central Bank of Egypt announced this provisional figure on September 7. Reserves were recorded at $56.2939 billion at the end of July, indicating a rise of about $920.6 million during August, or roughly 1.6%. This latest figure continues a trend of monthly growth in 2026 and marks Egypt’s official foreign reserves surpassing $57 billion for the first time ever.

Egypt reserves set new record at $57.2 billion in August
Egypt’s net international reserves reached a record $57.2 billion in August 2026.

Compared to August 2025, the total reserves in August 2026 increased by $7.9638 billion from $49.2507 billion, representing an annual growth rate of approximately 16.2%. Egypt concluded December 2025 with net international reserves of $51.4516 billion. Consequently, reserves have grown by about $5.76 billion, or 11.2%, within the first eight months of 2026. Official monthly data reveal that the reserve totals have consistently risen each month since the beginning of the year, with positive developments extending through August.

The momentum of reserve accumulation intensified during mid-2026. In May, net international reserves reached $53.1342 billion, then climbed to $55.0723 billion in June. July saw reserves grow further to $56.2939 billion, and by August, they reached $57.2145 billion. The increase from May to June was approximately $1.94 billion, while July added around $1.22 billion, and August contributed about $920.6 million. Combined, these three months saw an addition of over $4 billion to Egypt’s foreign reserve stockpile.

    Foreign Currency Inflows Stay Elevated

Remittances sent by Egyptians working abroad also achieved a record high during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The Central Bank of Egypt reported inflows totaling approximately $47.3 billion for that period, reflecting a 29.6% increase from about $36.5 billion in the previous fiscal year. In June alone, remittance receipts were around $4.2 billion, which is 15.6% higher than the roughly $3.6 billion recorded in June 2025, according to official data released in August.

Egypt’s latest available balance of payments figures cover the period from July to March of the 2025/2026 fiscal year. During those nine months, the overall balance recorded a deficit of $1.8 billion, while the capital and financial account saw net inflows of $9.9 billion. The current account registered a deficit of $14.6 billion. These figures offer the most recent official snapshot of Egypt’s external financial status before the August reserve update.

Reserve Values Continue to Reach New Monthly Peaks

Throughout 2026, Egypt’s reserve levels have hit several new nominal highs. Reserves were recorded at $52.5938 billion in January, rising to $52.7455 billion in February. They climbed further to $52.8306 billion in March, then increased to $53.0092 billion in April and reached $53.1342 billion in May. The reserve total surpassed $55 billion in June, $56 billion in July, and $57 billion in August. The August figure remains provisional, consistent with the standard for monthly reserve announcements.

Compared to its position a year earlier, Egypt’s August reserve level is nearly $8 billion higher. The country has now achieved three consecutive month-end reserves above $55 billion. July marked the first month-end figure exceeding $56 billion, and August was the first to top $57 billion. Since December 2025, the reserve stock has grown by more than 10%. The August data establish a new peak for Egypt’s net international reserves and continue the uninterrupted monthly upward trend seen throughout 2026.
