    UN Special Envoy on Libya calls on Abdullah bin Zayed

    H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has received Jan Kubis, UN Special Envoy on Libya and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya. During the meeting, which was held at the ministry’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, the two sides discussed the situation in Libya and ways to support the Government of National Unity in fulfilling its mission to consolidate security and stability in Libya and prepare for Libyan elections in December 2021.

    Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan wished the UN Special Envoy success in his duties, pledging the UAE and its leadership’s steadfast support for UN efforts to achieve stability, prosperity, sovereignty and unity in Libya. He underlined the importance of supporting the Government of National Unity during its leadership of the transitional phase and its support in its efforts to achieve security, stability and prepare for the elections scheduled for next December, stressing that Libya is looking forward to a new phase of stability, peace and development.

    His Highness also reaffirmed the strong fraternal relations between the UAE and Libya, and the UAE’s commitment to support the new executive authority in Libya and its permanent standing by the brotherly Libyan people, in order to achieve their aspirations for development, progress and prosperity. The meeting was attended by Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of State, and Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State.

    UAE joins high-level New York talks on Middle East security, stability and cooperation. Attendees comprised Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, along with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa. Kuwait was represented by Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, while Egypt’s delegation included Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. Senior officials from Bahrain, Oman, Iraq, and Lebanon joined Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan in the talks. Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi also contributed to the discussions. The focus of the meeting was on regional security and stability, alongside efforts to promote development in the Middle East. Participants also explored avenues to enhance international cooperation to tackle both regional and global challenges. The agenda included multilateral strategies aimed at fostering peace, stability, and economic progress. Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed the UAE’s backing for regional and global initiatives designed to ease tensions and lay the groundwork for enduring peace. He linked these goals to broader objectives of security, stability, and prosperity for the regional population. Regional Leaders Examine Security and Stability Challenges During the discussions in New York, Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the strength of the UAE-U.S. relationship. He described this partnership as built on trust, mutual respect, and shared interests. The two nations collaborate across diverse sectors aligned with their economic and development priorities.
