ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES / RankWire.AI / – UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. The discussions centered on strengthening bilateral relations and exploring opportunities for expanded cooperation. The leaders also addressed regional developments across the Middle East and other shared concerns, emphasizing ongoing dialogue on security, stability, and lasting peace. King Abdullah’s visit included a senior Jordanian delegation.

UAE-Jordan talks focus on bilateral ties, trade cooperation and regional issues.

During the meeting, the two leaders examined collaboration in economic, trade, and development fields under the UAE-Jordan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing ties in areas that support national development priorities. They also considered strategies to expand cooperation aligned with mutual interests. Maintaining extensive political and economic relations, the two nations regularly hold high-level consultations. Their latest encounter aimed to advance bilateral growth and regional coordination concurrently.

King Abdullah arrived in Abu Dhabi accompanied by Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and Prime Minister Jafar Hassan. Sheikh Mohamed personally welcomed the Jordanian monarch upon his arrival. The talks were attended by senior UAE officials, including Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Also present were Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The participation of senior officials underscored the broad scope of issues discussed during the visit.

Expansion of Economic Ties Reinforces UAE-Jordan Cooperation

The main framework for enhanced economic collaboration between the UAE and Jordan is the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Signed on October 6, 2024, and effective since May 15, 2025, it marked the UAE’s first comprehensive economic pact with an Arab nation. This agreement ensures trade liberalization for over 98% of tariff lines and encompasses services, investment, digital trade, customs cooperation, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Furthermore, the accord grants preferential treatment to goods that adhere to applicable rules of origin and technical standards, covering more than 99.5% of the value of UAE exports to Jordan. The framework includes mechanisms to streamline customs procedures and promote investment cooperation, supported by committees and designated focal points overseeing implementation. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah stressed that economic, trade, and developmental cooperation are central to deepening UAE-Jordan relations.

Focus on Regional Security and Stability Remains Paramount

Regional issues also played a significant role in the Abu Dhabi discussions. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah shared perspectives on matters affecting the Middle East and regional stability as a whole. Both leaders underscored the importance of continued coordination between the UAE and Jordan, linking such efforts to enhancing security and regional stability. They reiterated their support for initiatives aimed at achieving long-term peace, with their dialogue emphasizing shared regional concerns.

Later on Sunday, King Abdullah left the UAE following the talks, with Sheikh Mohamed present to see him off alongside senior UAE officials. The visit continued the tradition of regular engagement between the two leaders concerning bilateral and regional issues. Their meeting in Abu Dhabi combined discussions on economic collaboration under the partnership agreement with consultations on developments in the Middle East. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close bilateral coordination across economic, developmental, and regional spheres.
